Victim Advocate - (Domestic Violence)
Reports To: Director
Job Purpose:
The Victim Advocate for the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting the enhancement and expansion of services for victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, sex trafficking, and stalking. Working in collaboration with the Domestic Violence Program team, the Advocate will provide direct services, facilitate access to community resources, and assist with program development and outreach.
This role requires cultural sensitivity, confidentiality, crisis management skills, and a strong commitment to supporting individuals affected by trauma.
Job Duties:
• Responds to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, sex trafficking and stalking that have been identified by either the process of intakes, referrals or crisis calls.
• Determine appropriate services for incoming clients.
• Maintain accurate, confidential case documentation in accordance with program policies and funding requirements.
• Provides trauma-informed advocacy and case management for clients by conducting intakes and conducting periodic case management meetings to develop and update goals.
• Provide crisis intervention, resource/referral, and support to individuals seeking shelter, housing, legal advocacy, counseling, and other community resources.
• Provide community education and awareness on issues related to domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and trafficking through participation in community/tribal outreach events.
• Assist clients with safety planning, emergency shelter coordination, legal advocacy, and referrals to other community resources.
• Be available for on-call duty to provide direct services to clients identified as victims of domestic/sexual violence at local hospitals within service area.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, healthcare providers, courts, and other service agencies to ensure coordinated care.
• Assist victims/survivors in knowing their rights about obtaining a Protective Order and what to do when the order is violated.
• Empower clients to achieve goals and make positive changes in their lives.
• Increase knowledge of local referral sources and ability to coordinate services with other providers.
• Maintains regular office hours and be on-call for meeting with victims/survivors to make it easier for the victim/survivor to initiate criminal proceedings or receive assistance. Be available for on-call duty to provide direct services to clients identified as victims of domestic/sexual violence at local hospitals within service area.
• Participate in the development and implementation of victim service protocols and outreach initiatives.
• Uphold the mission, values, and policies of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma and its Domestic Violence Program.
• In/Out of State Training as permitted by funding.
• Assist in data collection and reporting for grant compliance and program evaluation.
• Work with hired outside contractor to assist with the Domestic Violence Program Scan/Assessment. Gather and provide all needed documentation and data.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Language Skills –
o Ability to read and interpret documents such as law enforcement reports, government or agency regulations and legal interpretations.
o Ability to write reports, business correspondence and policy and procedure recommendations.
o Ability to speak effectively before individuals, public groups and employees of the organization.
• Mathematical Skills - Ability to calculate figures and amounts required to assist with budget management.
• Reasoning –
o Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
o Ability to assist families to resolve complex family situations.
Work Environment
The employee may encounter potentially hostile or challenging environments while performing the primary functions of this role. This includes interactions with clients in their homes or in public settings. As such, the employee should be equipped with appropriate de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques to effectively manage difficult or hostile situations.
This position also requires periodic travel, both within the state and out of state. Candidates should be prepared for travel as part of their employment.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
▪ Four (4) years of substantial relevant experience may be substituted for the educational requirement with a high school diploma or GED.
• Preference will be given to persons with the following or similar certifications: Certified Domestic & Sexual Violence Response Professional, State-Certified Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training Program or SANE/SART (sexual assault nurse examiner/sexual assault response team)
▪ Valid Oklahoma driver’s license with ability to meet Seminole Nation liability insurance requirements and maintain eligibility for insurance.
▪ Must be able to pass background check, with no prior convictions and/or felonies.
▪ Must be able to comply with the Seminole Nation Drug Free Workplace policies.
