Nutrition/ CACFP/ KidKare Specialist
Position Title: Nutrition/CACFP/KidKare Specialist

Reports to: Head Start Director

Wage Classification: Exempt

Job Summary

Organizes, administers, and coordinates comprehensive nutrition services for children, families, and Early Head Start/Head Start staff. Oversees and manages compliance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), including KidKare reporting, ensuring adherence to USDA, Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE), tribal, state, and Head Start Performance Standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Satisfactory job performance will be determined by the successful execution of the following:

a) Provides nutrition education and counseling to parents and families.

b) Interprets nutrition screening and assessment data.

c) Develops systems to monitor and evaluate nutrition services.

d) Promotes healthy eating habits consistent with USDA Dietary Guidelines.

e) Coordinates services for children with special dietary needs and documented disabilities.

f) Participates in Health Advisory Committee meetings.

Job Duties

In accordance with USDA and OSDE CACFP regulations, the Nutrition/CACFP Manager shall:

· Manage CACFP application, renewals, training, and compliance with OSDE and USDA requirements.

· Ensure menus meet CACFP meal patterns, portion sizes, whole grain, sugar limits, and infant feeding guidelines.

· Maintain documentation for medical meal substitutions and formula compliance.

· Oversee accurate daily meal counts using KidKare and reconcile with attendance.

· Review, approve, and submit monthly meal claims within required deadlines.

· Maintain edit checks and internal controls to prevent overclaims.

· Keep all required CACFP records including meal counts, attendance, menus, invoices, eligibility forms, training logs, monitoring reports, civil rights, and water documentation.

· Ensure compliance with USDA five-year record retention requirements.

· Conduct site monitoring reviews and document corrective actions.

· Track and ensure completion of corrective actions and prepare for audits.

· Provide technical assistance and compliance support to staff.

· Ensure annual Civil Rights training, proper nondiscrimination statements, required postings, and complaint procedures.

· Supervise kitchen staff and ensure compliance with food safety regulations.

· Monitor food procurement, storage, labeling, and temperature logs.

· Conduct classroom and kitchen observations and support nutrition education activities.

· Develop and maintain compliance systems aligned with CACFP and program standards.

· Collaborate with leadership, staff, and families on nutrition services.

· Write reports, recommend corrective actions, and maintain confidentiality.

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:

a) Supervise kitchen staff.

b) Provide coaching, evaluation, and performance feedback.

c) Assist in hiring and disciplinary processes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

a) · Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, or a related field (preferred)

b) Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered

c) Current students working toward a bachelor’s degree are encouraged to apply degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, or related field.

d) Registered or Licensed Dietitian (required).

e) Experience with CACFP administration preferred.

f) CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain).

g) Valid Oklahoma driver’s license.

h) Must pass background check and fingerprinting.

i) Must comply with Seminole Nation Drug-Free Workplace policies.
