Secretary - (General Council)
Reports to: General Council / Chief
FLSA: Exempt

SUMMARY:
The Secretary of the General Council shall perform all duties relating to and arising from meetings and activities of the General Council, including issuance of meeting notices, preparation of minutes, attestation of resolutions, ordinances and other documents, and preparation of certified copies of such documents.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include the following:
 Attend to the giving and serving of all notices of the General Council;
 Attend all meetings of the General Council, and record and take notes regarding the proceedings;
 Prepare minutes of General Council meetings;
 Attest to the signature of the Principal Chief on resolutions, ordinances, and other tribal documents requiring such attestation;
 Certify copies of original tribal documents;
 Maintain files, records and correspondence of the General Council;
 Act as official custodian of all official original tribal documents;
 Perform all other duties concerning the preparation and maintenance of the Nation’s records required by Seminole Nation Code, Title 21, Section 101 et seq.; and
 Exercise other duties as may be specifically delegated to the Secretary.
 Occasional local travel required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to independently complete secretarial duties in a timely manner.
• Basic Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with the Constitution and Code of Laws of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma governing the duties of the General Council and duties of the General Council Secretary.
• Valid Oklahoma driver’s license with ability to meet Seminole Nation liability insurance requirements and maintain eligibility for insurance.
• Must be able to pass background check, with no prior convictions and/or felonies.
• Must be able to comply with the Seminole Nation Drug Free Workplace policies.
