Position Summary
This position is responsible for the direct care and supervision of the children attending the Child Care Center. This includes caring for the day-to-day needs of infants and toddlers under their care. The teacher will provide assistance to the Teacher Supervisor in daily routines and in the coordination and implementation of classroom schedules and activities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Prepares a safe, healthy learning environment for children that is developmentally appropriate and experientially based.
2. Supervise all classroom activities, field trips and outdoor activities.
3. Plans and implements learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical competence of children including improving the readiness of children.
4. Supports social and emotional development and provides positive guidance and discipline.
5. Provides teacher supervisor with information about their classroom children on monthly basis.
6. Develops an individual plan for each child to include goal setting based on identified needs.
7. Remains up-to-date on information that pertains to the needs of the children in the program including licensing regulations and other applicable regulations.
8. Use a variety of tools to document and report children’s academic/cognitive, social, emotional and physical growth.
9. Design developmentally appropriate learning environments as a tool for promoting quality learning experiences.
10. Participate in planned professional development training opportunities.
11. Ensure that all learning environments meet tribal health and safety codes and that planned activities promote healthy lifestyle choices for children and their families.
12. abide by the DHS licensing requirement for the childcare center.
13. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge of child growth and development stages of children birth through 5 years of age.
2. Effective communication and active listening skills.
3. Basic knowledge of curriculum development for children birth to six years of age
4. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, families, and service providers.
5. Ability to evaluate and analyze problems/situations and develop effective solutions.
6. Willingness to assume responsibility for monitoring/assessing own performance for purpose of individual growth and/or corrective action.
7. Respect for cultural beliefs, values and traditions of the Seminole Nation.
Knowledge of the requirements for safe and healthy meals, service preparation, delivery and clean-up.

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
1. High school diploma, or GED, and Childhood Development Associates Certificate with three years of experience in childcare setting required; OR
2. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

Licensing Status
1. Must be able to successfully complete a Background Investigation.
2. Must be able to maintain a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under the Nation’s policy.
3. Must be able to abide by the DHS licensing requirement for the childcare center.
4. Acceptable tuberculosis screening results;
5. An initial health exam and drug/alcohol testing are required post job offer and prior to employment.
6. Must be able to successfully complete ELCCT training within 90 days of employment.

Working Conditions
1. Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outside work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
2. Work hours subject to change with overtime work required.
3. Subject to hazards which may cause personal bodily harm; smoke; diseases, cuts; bruises, burns, common cold, influenza, dust, odors, bodily fluids, and elevated noise levels.
4. Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces.
5. Duties may involve walking, standing for long periods of time, sitting and crouching.
